In 2023, I got my first atelier. Having my own space gave me the freedom to try out some new things. I bought a small oven to melt aluminium and started experimenting with lost-foam casting, which I had seen a some people doing before. I liked the process, but it felt a bit overused at the time, so I looked for a way to do it differently.
I started watching some YouTube videos and what caught my attention was the hot glue people use to join foam before casting. I started making maquettes from XPS foam, the same kind I used for the black stools and glued them together with thick lines of hot glue, even on the inside. It looks like welds and they are in places where welding wouldn’t be possible, which made it feel like I was cheating in a way.
